BRETT CHALLOS
Cover/Editorial Design
Set the style and designed nearly 40 issues of this magazine from cover to cover. As an oversized print publication, it allowed for large imagery and ample use of white space while selectively positioning the text on each spread. When creating the logo, I wanted it to have prominence, however, I did not want it to feel too heavy. Creating a transparency effect allowed it to be a dominant element on the cover without overpowering the imagery. The use of bright colors throughout step off the page and amplifies the photography.
Agency Work
I have had the pleasure of working with numerous agencies illustrating custom projects for their clients. From individual pieces to entire campaigns consisting of more than a dozen illustrations,
I have conceptualized and completed all projects
on budget and on time.
Editorial Illustration
Reading an editorial piece and creating an illustration based upon the content is always an exciting challenge. From smaller pieces to cover stories and spreads, I have worked on numerous illustrations and in varying styles. It is a rewarding experience to be able to help the story come alive visually.
Custom Hand Lettering
While working on a cover design, I realized finding a standard font for the title would be difficult to find. As a solution, I began working within Adobe Illustrator using various brushes and weights creating custom lettering. Adding in detail and color gradients made the characters come to life.
